How can i change any document to pdf format? without adobe acrobat?

i have documents that i would like to change into a pdf format. where can i find SAFE downloadable programs ? instant 10 points for usable answer.How can i change any document to pdf format? without adobe acrobat?

If these documents are things like .doc, .rtf -- in other words things MS Office -- you can use OpenOffice to open the file and Export As... PDF.



Link below to Linux software (free) that gives ideas and links to homepages for those softwares. Many have XP install capabilities. OpenOffice is XP capable.
OpenOffice.org is a widely-used program that has this capability. Actually, it's a great overall alternative to Microsoft Office.



As for safety, I know of workers in U.S. Government agencies that use OpenOffice.org - if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for the rest of us.
