OpenOffice has an inbuilt ';Export To PDF'; option.

so all you need to do is to install open office, then open the word file in OpenOffice and select ';export to PDF';.

Apart from that, there are online solutions available too, where you wil first have to upload your document, and submit your email id, and then in a minute or so you will received the PDF version of your document in mail - but i dont recommend that as you have to upload your word document on the website.

Last is to buy paid software to convert doc to pdf.

I personally have openoffice installed and it works perfectly. Also, its free and I also save on buying Microsoft Office suite (Open office is fully compatible with MS Office and has got all - Excel, PowerPoint, Word etc comparable solutions)

Get OpenOffice here: http://www.openoffice.org/

hope this helps.
if you have office 2007, you can get a plug-in that does this easily. if not, there are other programs. try pdf995.com or there are other websites that you can upload your files, and they'll email you copies of them as pdfs
