If you are using Microsoft Word 2007, install the 'save as PDF' add-in, then you can save your document as PDF directly.
If you are using another Word processor or the former version, I found you a list of some free PDF creators.

You can't write documents in Vista. Vista is an operating system not a word processing program.
Assuming you have Microsoft Word, just use the Save As option and switch the format pop-up to PDF.
