How do i change a PDF file into one that works for my computer?

I scanned photos on someone elses computer and my laptop doesnt support the files,so nothing shows up but text. How do i convert them into something that will allow me to see them?How do i change a PDF file into one that works for my computer?

This works on pcs with Windows 2000 and after and on Macs.

If you already have Adobe reader and it still doesn't work, you probably have a different problem. Most scanners I have used give the option of scanning pictures as jpegs, which most all computers can handle. So I am wondering why pdf for pictures. Certainly pictures can be put in a pdf document, but there are many other formats available that would be preferred.How do i change a PDF file into one that works for my computer?
